His past
Camus, originally born in France, trained to become a Gold Saint in the cold Siberian Tundra (external source), placed at the northwest of Russia. According to the information Masami Kurumada published about Camus, Camus became a Gold Saint at the age of 7 and wore it for the first time at the age of 13, for what I assume he spent most of his childhood in Siberia training to earn the skills to become the Aquarius Saint. Although, Camus not only trained there to become the Aquarius Cloth bearer, but also decided to take this place to train his both students Isaac and Hyoga according to the manga story. In the anime, instead of training his students, Camus was replaced by the Crystal Saint, a student he trained in order to make him raise and train both children who were candidates to wear the Cygnus bronze Cloth.
Sanctuary Saga

During the Sanctuary Saga, Camus returns to Greecee as the Aquarius Saint but not before sinking the ship which contained his student Cygnus Hyoga's mother corpse, the main reason why Hyoga wanted to become an Athena Saint and his major weakness according to Camus' ideals of the perfect Saint, someone who shouldn't let emotions take control over common sense, remaining tough, emotionless and cold as he taught Hyoga once in Siberia. When meeting with his student in the Libra Temple, Hyoga asks him why did he sink the ship, and once again, Camus would point that the attachment Hyoga had to his mother's corpse was his biggest weakness, and that he decided to sink it to the deeps of the sea so he wouldn't get any chances to look up for her corpse anymore. Hyoga briefly reaches the 7th sense, but as his heart is still filled with emotions, Camus simply finishes his student with the "Aurora Execution" and locks him into the "Freezing Coffin", considering that Hyoga isn't yet ready to fight against the Gold Saints and is still a victim of his own emotions. In frustration and sadness over the results of the battle, Camus weeps and asks for forgiveness to what he did, showing his emotions only for once but never expressing any kind of remose for the decision made.Hyoga is later set free from the coffin thanks to Dragon Shiryuu intervention, returning to the battlefield once more. Is here where he battles against Scorpio Milo, who would point repeatedly to the Bronze Saint how he didn't understand Camus' feelings and intentions and, finally, after being defeated and brought back to life by Milo Scorpio himself after his "Antares" technique, Hyoga faces Camus once again, now in the Aquarius Temple, who mentions he will show no mercy this time as he did in Libra Temple. Right at the border of death, Hyoga reaches the 7th sense once more and the "Absolute Zero", requirement to perform the ice techniques, and as Camus notices, he decides to finish his student using the "Aurora Execution", signature technique of the Aquarians Saints, to what Hyoga starts imitating the techinque and, after releasing the "Aurora Execution", the whole Aquarius Temple ends up frozen, including both Camus and Hyoga. On his last words, Camus expressed the happiness of feeling he accomplished his mission of training Hyoga, and wishes he could let him continue his path of justice and truth as a Bronze Saint but didn't have the power to do so, falling on the floor and dying, Hyoga crying and thanking him for always guiding him until the very end of his life.
Hades Saga

Later on, we get to see brief flashbacks and references to Camus, probably the most important ones being placed during Poseidon Saga, in where is revealed that Camus (The Crystal Saint in the anime) had not one but two students in charge of, being Marina General Kraken Isaac the other student aside Cygnus Hyoga and, also, when the Aquarius Cloth comes to protect Hyoga guided by Camus' cosmos himself. But Camus appears once again during the Hades Saga, taking an important role as one of the many Gold Saints revived by Underworld God Hades in order to murder Athena in less than 12 hours, along with Gemini Saga, Cancer Deathmask, Capricorn Shura and Pisces Aphrodite. Teaming up with Gemini Saga and Capricorn Shura, the three of them battle against Virgo Shaka, eventually killing him, and, later on, against the three survivors left of the last Holy War: Aries Mu, Leo Aioria and Scorpio Milo, both teams using the forbidden technique "Athena Exclamation". After being defeated, Athena summons both teams and commits suicide with Gemini Saga's dagger, that way acomplisshing the mission Camus' team had. Finally, Saga, Shura and Camus return to Hades Castle with Athena's blood, claiming they murdered the Godess, but they quickly change bands, and try attacking Pandora, revealing they have never had intentions of betraying Athena. Unfortunately, their 12 hours are in their end, and the three Saints start disintegrating as the Bronze Saints break on Hades Castle, meeting with his student Hyoga once more and telling him to continue with the mission of saving humanity.
In the climax of the Hades saga, Camus is revived once more with the rest of Gold Saints in the Giudecca, in order to combine their cosmos to destroy the Wailing Wall.

I'm taking this place to write whatever-physical/psychical feature Camus has actually. I should rename it but bah, I don't know how should it be named for now, suggestions are always welcome!
Physical Apperance
Camus' appearance is the one of a tall
(184 cm), thin man (76 kg, I don't think he's under weight actually but he definitely looks thin for me...) with long hair, parted eyebrows and deep eyes, features that bring him somewhat of a rather feminine aspect compared to other characters in Saint Seiya. I really hate to say this, but most of times Camus falls into the "Bishounen" category (japanese for "beautiful man") but since I hate that terminology I am not using that word to describe him, also because the concept behind the "Bishounen" word definitely doesn't fit Camus at all in my humble oppinion. In any case, modeled androgynous on purpose, the idea was to make a man who could portray the beauty of both cup bearers who represent the Constellation of Aquarius: Hebe and Ganymede. While Hebe, daughter of Zeus and Hera and Goddess of Youth was the first cupbearer of the Greek Gods in the Olympus, she was replaced by young prince Ganymede later on, son of Tros who was King of Troy, after Zeus fell deeply in love by his beauty and grace and kidnapped him, turning himself into an eagle to do so. Now, these features, even when repeated themselves in both manga and anime, still have notorious differences in between them. Let's analyze them and compare.

Now, these features, even when repeated themselves in both manga and anime, still have notorious differences in between them. Let's analyze them and compare.01. Hair
In manga, Camus has long, red hair while in the anime, Camus has black/turquoise hair (I say black because only the edges of his hair were turquoise once in the old series while, in the Hades saga, it was completely turquoise). Now, I am still trying to figure out where the idea of giving Camus red hair came from. As for me, the red given is extremely beauty but also an impossible hair color as well. In my opinion, I like to think Camus was, originally, a red-head or had some bright ash hair color, but that's just me. While in the anime they tried to bring a mixture of black-greenish turquoise color which turned, in the end, into light turquoise during Hades saga, as I already mentioned. I take my guess that the long hair treat must has been to enphatise the concept of androgyny on him.02. Nails
Is well known that in manga, Camus nails are... impressive. For some reason, he got time to do his nails well enough to be remember in time: long, red nails, as his hair, would decorate each finger of his hands. This treat is definitely one hard to forget, although it was omitted in anime, giving him normal nails. We will see this treat once again in the ongoing manga "Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas", directed by Masami Kurumada himself and drawn by the artist Shiori Teshirogi, in where the Aquarius Saint of that Holy War, Dégel, possesses the same feature of feminine fingers with well treated nails.03. Eyebrows
Probably one of my favorite features on him. Thick, masculine eyebrows, parted in the edges, always frowned. I simply love this feature because of the tough, serious look they bring to Camus face, incredibly fascinating to me. In my opinion, is this feature the one that makes him look very masculine, making perfect harmony with his facial features which would border the femeninity even more if it wasn't because of them. The fact they are also thick just kill me actually. THEY. ARE. SO. MASCULINE. I can't love them enough. I'm sorry I spazzed so much.04. Eyes
We are clear that, in manga, Camus' eyes are red, matching his hair and nails. In anime, they changed his color once again and made Camus get clear, blue, cold and inexpressive eyes, in both first anime and the Hades Saga, matching the combination with his turquoise hair. An special mention goes for his eyelashes, which are quite long, although this is a feature related to the drawing style all characters have, is just about taking a look at other characters in the plot (such as Shura, for instance, who I remember having the same long, prominent eyelashes.)Personality Overview
If I could describe Camus' personality in only one word that would be "complex". And I'm not telling you this, fellow reader, only because I simply adore Camus, but also because of the way Camus acts during the develope of the series as the events go by was what made me realize he was quite hard to understand. Thanks to his feature during the series, Camus could be easily described as THE emotionless Saint, almost never showing even a sign of emotionality on his acts, but I believe there is much more than just cold and ruthlessness in his personality and this is why I'm taking my time to describe and analyse his features one by one, not without starting this analysis with a brief explanation of the Aquarius zodiacal sign.
Aquarius is the 11th zodiacal sign in the Occidental Zodiac, what means that people born in between Jan. 20 to Feb. 18 are born under this Constellation. Aquarius is an "Air" sign, of "Positive" nature and "Fixed" quantitie. Right below this text there's a table with all the treats each characterist bring to the people born under this sign.
Other zodiacal signs that share some of these treats are:
01. Coldness
Camus has always been portrayed and intepreted
as a cold, emotionless person, probably due the nature of the element he manipulates, but theories about the nature of his personality have been largely discussed as he claims his student Hyoga he needs to take feelings away in order to make of himself a better warrior when he is the one that shed tears when locking him into the Freezing Coffin in Libra Temple. Theorically, Camus claims the perfect Athena Saint is the one that separates feelings and emotions from duty (in fact, he claims the Perfect Saint should be one with absolutely no emotions controlling actions at least on the battlefield), but how much does he really believes in that or follows that brelief? The tears he shed could be ones full of emotions and sadness over his single student not being able to accomplish his role as an Athena Saint on the Holy War, or could have been tears due his own failure as Master, showing nothing but only his own frustration, what would match his ideals of not feeling anything for anyone but himself. But in case that statement was true, why commiting suicide in order to teach his Student about the ultimate Aquarian technique? or why even bothering be willing to still show him the seventh sense when he already failed? Then again, the chances Camus acted moved by his own ambitions are still standing, but at the other hand, there's also a chance he really developed feelings for someone despise the cold mask he wears, in this case, his only Student left, even when the nature of this feelings remain unknown (and don't misunderstand me, I'm not talking about romantic feelings, but that's open to whoever believes what kind of feelings are we talking about. I might write more widely about it on the "Relationships" secction soon).
02. Stability
Close to Coldness comes the Stability of the character, as one of the many result of being an emotionless Saint. I find it hard to explain since in the series Camus shows very little of this feature by itself and not mixed with the trait of coldness. This one could probably speak by the way Camus acts around other people or by the way he thinks about certain events developing. For instance, in Episode G, even when he is sent to talk with Leo Aioria, the rejected Saint by the Sanctuary due his brother Sagittarius Aioros' acts, he keeps himself still collected around him, never showing not even a crack on his personality that could make other believe he is breaking in rage or sadness. And even despise what other Saints think of, Camus keeps thinking and believeing the way he does, never changing his mind.

Random Facts
Or the secction in where I compile everything that does not fit in other categories. Mainly analysis and few random things related to the character that are always good to know (even when these fact would fit in the 'useless trivia' category of information about any subject. In any case, wanted to know why Camus is named Camus? Or maybe willing to know about the past Aquarius Cloth bearers? You are in the right place.
01. Aquarius Dégel
We are not sure about how canon is Lost Canvas series for now, even when it is in fact directed by Masami Kurumada, but we are sure there is an Aquarius Saint to be considered. His name is Dégel (french for "thaw"), his physical apperance and psychological treats resembling Camus with minor (or wide) differences with the latter. Despise the fact of being portrayed with exactly the same features as Camus, Dégel as himself gets to develope much more feelings and emotiones compared to Camus, showing rage, happiness, comfort, pain and many more emotions through his face and acts during his role in Lost Canvas. As to me, I say Dégel is much more human than Camus himself, not shielding his true self behind mysterious cold images. Regarding his role in the XVIII Century's Holy War, here is a brief summary I wrote time ago for another fanlisting of mine.

Spoilers for Lost Canvas ahead
His role during the Holy War starts around episode 100 in the manga, when Athena sends him and Scorpio Kardia on a mission to find the Orichalcum hidden in Poseidon's realm under the sea, the gate located in Bluegard, Siberia, Degel's birth place. As they both meet with Unity, son of Garcia, old ruler of Bluegard and Degel's childhood best friend, they find their way to Poseidon's place, in where they meet with Hell Judge Wyvern Rhadamanthys and Pandora, both seeking for Poseidon's Orichalcum as well. After Unity's murder by Rhadamanthys, Kardia takes Degel's place in order to make Degel run after Pandora and bring the Orichalcum while he fights against Radamanthys, sacrifying himself for his friend's well being and for the mission, Degel promising his sacrifice wouldn't be in vain.
Degel finds himself with an injured and unconscious Pandora right in front of the gate that leads to where the Orichalcum is hidden, just to find the body of Lady Seraphina (Unity's old sister) and Sea Dragon, one of Poseidon's Marina General, no one than Unity, his best friend who wasn't really dead and actually took place as part of Poseidon Marina General, both fighting for the Orichalcum until Pandora breaks through and destroy the seal of the Orichalcum, unleashing Poseidon's power which takes control over Seraphina's body. In the end, Degel sacrifices himself and uses his Freezing Coffin to freeze himself and Lady Seraphina/Poseidon under the sea, leaving to his friend Unity the duty to deliver the Orichalcum to Athena.Written by me for Supernova Sky.
